Whimsical Halloween Stationery That Will Unleash Your Inner Child

This year I'm going all in on the whimsical side of Halloween. It's all about capturing the excitement I felt as a kid: the anticipation of getting dressed up, joining my friends, and stomping wildly through the neighborhood (or, in my case, the Hong Kong apartment building) for an evening of knocking on doors.

Hong Kong in the 90s could be hit and miss for trick or treating; I remember getting a lot of mandarins and sesame snaps. Actually 2024 me would be thrilled with a whole bag of fruit, but 1994 me was more interested in a mini Mars Bar or some much coveted candy corn. I was obsessed with candy corn. Not because it was better than other sweets, but because as an American import it was scarce. You had to ration the stuff! I didn't care that it had no flavor beyond "sugar", there was just nothing else that had that satisfying chewy texture. It wasn't until later in life that I learned candy corn is a divisive treat, hated by many.

That's fine. More for me.

This year I'm letting the candy corn flow freely... in illustration form! It's cropping up in every single Halloween design for 2024.

I've also really enjoying creating some other Halloween cartoon characters for a whimsical take on spooky season...
